Discover how sensory integration, at the intersection of oculomotor, vestibular, and somesthesia, transforms your movement into optimal performance!
Last week, we talked about the three rivers of information that nourish movement:
Three systems. Three flows.
And at the intersection of these flows… a lake.
This lake is sensory integration. And this is where everything happens.
You can train each system separately… But if integration doesn’t follow, you always limit your transfer.
You can have:
But if these signals do not converge correctly in the subcortical structures (brainstem, cerebellum, superior colliculi), then:
It’s not just about activating. It’s about harmonizing.
In an ideal world, the three systems communicate with each other. But in real life, we often observe dominances, dissonances, or even perceptual short-circuits.
An athlete who compensates for a somesthetic deficit with an over-reliance on vision. Result? They lose their footing as soon as they close their eyes. Literally.
Yes, integration can be trained. And it’s often what’s missing in the biomechanical progression of a client who is stuck.
The brain does not seek to be strong.
It seeks to be coherent.
This is what liberates movement.
This is what makes an instruction readable.
This is what allows for transfer on the field.
