Hello,
You repeat the same gesture, again. The person has it, under your eye. Two minutes later, they have reverted to their old way of doing things. And this has been going on for months.
There is a reason, and it has nothing to do with willpower. A body always returns to its most stable solution, the one that costs it the least given what it perceives.
In movement science, this is called an attractor, somewhat like the hollow into which a ball always ends up rolling. You can push the ball elsewhere by hand. As soon as you let go, it returns to the hollow.
What really shifts this solution is not the correction, but the change in constraints around the task.
Change the space, the speed, the object, the target, and a better way of doing things emerges on its own, without you having to dictate it.
The person doesn't learn it because you show it to them. They find it because the situation forces them to.
What this changes tomorrow morning: instead of correcting a gesture, modify a single constraint of the task, and watch the solution change on its own. You coach the environment, the body does the rest.
