Discover the vestibulo-ocular reflex, this unsung hero that stabilizes your vision in the blink of an eye. Without it, your movements would be a real visual puzzle!
Last week, we discovered that your balance relies on a labyrinth just 3 mm wide: the vestibule.
Today, let’s focus on its accomplice twin: the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), the tiny pirouette that keeps your world from vibrating when you move.
Think of it as the stabilizing cable of a camera: as long as it holds, every image stays sharp; if it breaks, the scene starts to shake.
With every step, your head experiences micro-jolts. In 16 milliseconds, the VOR rotates your eyes in the opposite direction, just at the right speed.
It’s thanks to it that you can read a sign while walking without any blurriness, even if your skull is swaying like a sailboat mast.
When your head turns:
If the second part weakens (after a concussion, for example), the eye slips, the image disconnects: that’s the sudden dizziness, that "micro-glitch" that makes you stagger.
New rehabilitation programs combine oscillating platforms and moving light targets.
Result:
"We do not see only with our eyes, but with the complete choreography of our body."
The VOR is the silent guardrail between clarity and visual chaos.
On Sunday, we will go further: how does the brain anticipate the future movement of your eyes even before the head moves? 🤔
Take care of your labyrinth, and keep the world stable!
We only accompany a few pros at a time.
But what many don’t know is that most of our calibrations are done remotely.
And, honestly?
That’s often where the transformation is the finest, the most stable… the most lasting.
Some coaches and therapists have even chosen to integrate our remote RNP follow-up into their own offerings.
Result: a clearer framework, a more accurate diagnosis, and above all…
The ability to observe us, live, to refine their reading of the nervous system.
