Imagine a tightrope walker on his line: with every micro-oscillation, his eyes, inner ear, the skin on his feet, and the spindles in his calves send a stream of information to his brain; immediately, nerve orders descend to correct his posture. This constant back-and-forth forms the sensorimotor loop, that is, the ultra-rapid conversion of perception into action.
All these afferents converge towards the spinal cord, the brainstem, and then the cerebellum, the true predictive calculator: it compares the expected command (efferent copy) with the feedback received; if the discrepancy exceeds a threshold, it sends a motor correction in less than 100 ms, even before we are aware of it.
The efferent orders take three "highways":
The sensorimotor loop acts like an internal GPS: sensors, calculators, and effectors communicate several hundred times per second to ensure that every action remains in sync with the real world. If just one branch weakens (dizziness, neuropathy, visual loss), balance falters instantly; conversely, stimulating a single channel can be enough to rewire the entire network.
